Found the posting on Indeed.com, requested an application, printed, mailed it in, a little over a month later received a call from the kennel attendant manager to see if I was still interested. She was a bit unprofessional trying to scare me from the work to make sure I was actually interested. I understand where she is coming from but people should have common sense to know that working with animal care, especially as a kennel attendant in a vet, is naturally a disgusting job. The phone call to set up an interview was basically the same as the in person interview. She again continued to go on and on about how disgusting the job is, trying to scare me. I felt unappreciated and talked down to. I have a 4 year degree trying to get into animal care as a career with 3 years of animal care experience. I know it is naturally a gross job she could have acknowledged that I was competent of this. She then went on to explain how the current attendants are not passionate about their work and she has to baby sit them practically which interferes with her work. I then come to find out that it is a minimum wage job when other kennel attendants are paid roughly $12-24/hr. No offense but cleaning feces and vomit for a job is not worth minimum wage no wonder they don't care about their job. This was the nicest vet I have ever seen I am sure they could at least pay them $10. It wasn't really an interview because the only thing she asked me was if how disgusting the job was made me not interested. Literally the only question I was asked. After that she said if I was still interested there would be a 2nd "in work" interview where you go in for an opening shift for 1-2 hrs to get a feel of the work to make sure you still want to do it and they can get an idea of the type of person and worker you are.
