I applied online. I interviewed at AmeriHome Mortgage
Interview
Phony interview for a job that was already filled by an internal candidate. If they just were honest and said the job was filled internally, okay. But allowing me to spend hours preparing for something that was not available is dishonest. There were a couple of clues during the interview, such as every question asked was already on the resume (did not show much interest in the resume), the stated process, and I saw a job posting to backfill the position the person receiving the promotion was leaving.

Question 1
Only asked two questions, and both were already answered on the resume.

Interview
I applied in September 2025. The interviews were through Microsoft Teams, and the difficulty was average, but communications with the recruiter was terrible. I got through two rounds of interviews then proceeded to get ghosted.
For the first round I was asked two Leetcode easy questions and then a SQL question. Then they went through my experience and asked me some mortgage related questions.
The second round was more of a behavioral round, but there were still a few technical questions. I talked with one person for half the interview, then another person for the other half.

I applied in Q3 of 2024 and overall found the process to be a negative experience. While the questions themselves were not necessarily difficult, many were unclear, particularly in the take-home assessment. The instructions were vague, and using the “wrong” tool could result in automatic failure. I spoke with two other candidates who experienced the same issue, which suggests this is a recurring problem. I was fortunate enough to choose the expected tool, but this shouldn’t come down to luck.
Additionally, there was a noticeable emphasis on educational pedigree and credentials, and some hiring team members appeared dismissive of candidates without a specific “target” background (even though the program in question has a >60% acceptance rate). This approach felt unnecessarily exclusionary and not something I’ve encountered at more prestigious banks, finance or quant firms where I get the actual offer with great communication and feedbacks regardless of acceptance or rejection.
Lastly, communication with the recruiter was poor, with little to no response to emails or status updates throughout the process.
