I received an email from their recruiter and then a phone interview that went pleasantly well. She set up a phone interview with the hiring manager and another individual from upper management. The day of the phone interview, both of these individuals called me 7 minutes late and didn’t even apologize. Then I was on speaker phone, which is fine but usually one world say, well one with good manners, that “our apologies in advance but we have you on speaker phone”...nope none of that was said. So the interview hasn’t even started and two strikes down. So the interview starts and I wanted to talk further about their core values, neither one could really explain to me what and how they used those in their daily professional lives. But let me tell you what the hiring manager did say when asked about the company management style- “we are a young company “. Well 25 year old company is not necessarily young but he meant that young people work for the company. I’m not old but my maturity level was definitely older than the hiring managers. To say that young people run the company truly offended me. I then asked what the next step in the process was and the “young” hiring manager said the position has been open for two months and we are in no rush to fill it.
At this point, I had enough of the unnecessary arrogance and ignorance coming from the hiring manager. From offensive to rude, I thanked them for their time and ended the conversation.
What they fail to understand is that they are being interviewed too and yes, they will be on my “do not consider” list.
Treat people with respect and integrity. Know your company’s core values and have answers to questions asked. Saying, oh I don’t know, oh that’s a tough one...shows ignorance and lack of respect for the position you hold.
Overall, my impression of this company wasn’t pleasant. I’d never be disrespectful and arrogant towards anybody. That may be their company’s culture, but it surely isn’t mine. My search continues and I’ll find my home soon.
