The online job description and requirements are not accurate with the actual expectations of the role. Because this is a small company, all employees, including a Graphic/Web Designer, are expected to assist with on-site production services and installation. This is understandable as looser roles are common within smaller companies, but this was not disclosed in the job description. This is meant to be a marketing role, but upon asking what the possibility of career development or growth was, they simply replied that designers can move into the sales department and earn commissions.
Other red flags I learned from this interview:
- Employees are expected to work on-site 2 days a week even during the COVID-19 pandemic despite available resources to work remotely
- No project management system is set in place (constant, informal, verbal communication is the standard here)
- "If you are looking for a typical 9-6 job, this isn't for you." (w/ a $35,000/yr salary limit)
- The interviewer was unable to find a quiet space for conducting a phone screening
