      Brand Manager Interview

      18 Mar 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Worthington, OH
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Athena Marketing (Worthington, OH) in Feb 2016

      Interview

I applied online to the position because I thought this would be legitimate Brand Manager position. The job description was extremely vague so I really didn't know what the position was going into it. The interview itself was extremely informal and easy. Also they were playing Hip-Hop music pretty loudly when I walked in. That's progressive and all but its actually really unprofessional. That was a huge turn off for me. I also was told to wait when I got there. That took about 15-20 minutes which was also a huge turn off. The questions were super easy. They weren't even about my experience and leadership. Also the person who interviewed was being a tad bit rude to me at the time. He blatantly came out and asked me if I knew that I was in an interview. I told him yes and asked him if he knew that he was giving an interview. The interview was extremely and obviously scripted. As a young professional who has been working for 3 years now this was pretty insulting. As soon as I figured out that it would be a door to door sales position and that the interviewer wasn't even taking the time to go off script and get to know me I stopped caring. I have interviewed people personally. You never script responses and what you are going to say during them. The only thing you really have in front of you are the questions and the job description. After all this, they still called me back and told me that I had another "lunch interview" which would take three hours. No second interview takes longer than 2 hours at most. Which made me think they were actually going to take me door to door. I didn't have time for that because I currently have a legitimate full time job. My recommendation: Don't bother applying or interviewing unless you are really into door to door sales. They may have some enticing social benefits but when you actually look at it and its pyramid scheme structure, its not worth the trouble.

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Athena Marketing (Worthington, OH) in Jan 2016

      Interview

I interviewed with the CEO/President who just graduated from BG not even 2 years ago. Odd. I went in for the first interview (just to get to know me). They asked me to come back around lunch time the same day for a second interview. I declined because all of the reviews on here were exactly true. I was interviewing with 6 other people in the waiting room all with telemarketing backgrounds. As a PR person, brand manager has a completely different meaning. I didn't waste my time coming back for a second interview. The interview with Nikki was very cold and scripted. She didn't ask me anything about my resume or my experience. It was the strangest and most uncomfortable interview I've ever been to. The secretary was extremely nice and made everyone in the waiting room feel super welcomed to the office. The questions were very odd for an initial interview. She never really explained what the job I was applying for was and didn't look at my resume at all. The company's website has many many typos on it. I just didn't feel comfortable continuing any further with the company after that initial interview.

Thank you for your feedback. We do brand management for fortune 100 and 500 clients. We also take many people into consideration, there must have been something on your resume that initially made our hiring team want to contact you. We apologize you did not have the experience we would have hoped for. As for the website we are currently making updates. Thank you once again!

      Brand Manager Interview

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Athena Marketing (Worthington, OH) in Aug 2015

      Interview

Contacted by the admin/greeter (very nice) who was vague about the role on the phone and in email. When I arrived at the office interview, I filled out an "application" and noticed that open-door meetings were going on in this very small office. There was a radio loudly tuned in to a hip-hop station which I felt was un-businesslike, and frankly, inappropriate for a business lobby, despite the demo they're trying to attract. Filling out a form while listening to Lil' Wayne is a little distracting.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Got the money, power or fame question. I answered "Money". There were two other ones that were as generic, which is probably why I can't remember them. The interviewer did not seem interested in my resume in the least - the process seemed very scripted and was meant to be brief. When I asked how many Brand Managers were being hired, the straight-faced response was "...as many as I want." That seemed odd as most hiring managers understand they have a finite resources budget.

Thank you for your feedback. We absolutely play fun, energetic, young music as it keeps the motive high in our office and the people that fit in that environment are the individuals we're looking for. I'm not sure about the question you are referring to as there is no one in my office that has been taught to ask such a question. However, it's a good point to address. One of the many great aspects of being contracted with such a high profile client is that we have the luxury of not being constrained by a number or limit of individuals we can have as part of our team. I sincerely appreciate your feedback, thank you for interviewing with my company and best of luck in the future!
