I interviewed for a senior structural engineer role. Despite the advertised role stating that senior chartered engineers were wanted with engineering and design experience, the actual "technical" questions in the interview were entirely around the building consent review process and nothing remotely technical from an engineering perspective. Neither of the two interviewers in the panel were remotely qualified or technical enough to be able to judge the proficiency of a senior structural engineer.
After constantly having to chase up the HR for a week, I was called and told I did not have enough "building consent review experience". It became clear that the advertised position was potentially misleading and bordering deceptive, as only internal council reviewers would have "building consent review experience". It is highly possible that the roles had already been given to members of their internal team and advertising the role externally was an HR policy; despite likely having no intentions to hire externally. The whole process felt like a stitch up from the start and was a tremendous waste of my time.
