      Part-time Teller Interview

      28 Aug 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Vernon, AL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Avadian Credit Union (Vernon, AL) in Aug 2023

      Interview

I applied online via a job board. I was contacted a week later to set up a Teams call. I spoke with a very nice HR specialist for nearly an hour. It was incredibly laid back. She was very thorough with her questions and hit all the high spots that one would expect. She quickly passed me on to the person to whom my direct supervisor would report. The second interview was short and over the phone. She was equally upbeat. She spent most of the interview talking about the inherent challenges of this particular branch and asking how would I respond to them. In our brief conversation, she mentioned possibly enhancing the role as soon as I felt comfortable. It sounded like there was a lot of opportunity for advancement. The third interview came the very next day. It was another Teams call. I incorrectly assumed that it would be as laid back as the previous two. While kind and friendly, the last interviewer seemed a little upset that I did not know more about the scorecard than I did. I had been told that it was a guideline and that as long as I made a concerted effort to include sales patter in my interactions and follow up any lead I would be fine. After all, credit unions offer better rates than competing institutions so there was no need for a hard sell. Apparently, that was not the case. The third interviewer leaned hard on sales goals and making them. When I tried to gently push back, she just reiterated "We do not push products on our members, but you have hard targets that you are required to reach." She spoke more about the value that such products brought to the CU's bottom line than she did about how they brought value to our members. The next day, I read a review here that stated that they had gotten in trouble pushing unwanted/unneeded insurance products on their members. While I could find nothing to substantiate those allegations, that last interview left me feeling that there was at least a little validity to them. I went from having a positive feeling toward Avadian to wondering if I was making a mistake. It all hinged on that last interview and how it was so different from the two before it. Had they offered me the role, I would taken it. I needed the job. I truly believe I could have been successful in this role. However, I "knew" that by the reaction that I got after pushing back, there would be no offer.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Last interviewer: The scorecard goal is for 70% of all members to apply for additional financial products like mortgages, car loans, savings accounts, higher-tier checking accounts, or even new checking accounts. This is evaluated every 6 months. Do you feel comfortable with that goal?

      Question 2

2nd Interviewer: We have a lot of older ladies with years of experience who can help you get off to the right start. However, they are also going to be retiring sooner rather than later. How do feel about that?
