Question 1
Tell me about a time you managed a challenging client or borrower relationship and how you resolved the situation.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at BMO US (Los Angeles, CA) in Apr 2026
Interview
One of the most disappointing interview experiences I've had in more than 40 years of interviewing.
The process began well. The recruiter and second interviewer were professional, communicative, and respectful of my experience. I was then referred to the Market President for the final interview, where the experience changed completely. The interview felt disengaged, no next steps were discussed, and after I sent a thank-you email, I heard nothing for nearly three weeks.
When I followed up with the recruiter to express my continued interest and ask for an update, I received a generic rejection email within seconds. Not getting the job wasn't the issue—poor communication and a lack of professionalism were. Based on BMO's reputation, I expected a much better candidate experience.

Question 1
How would I describe my management style? How do I handle an underperforming employee?
I was initially contacted by the lead recruiter via email on January 16 and scheduled for a virtual screening interview on January 21. After successfully passing the screening, I was invited to a second virtual round interview about two weeks later with the two executives I would be supporting, which took place on February 4. I received a verbal offer for the position on February 6 and an official offer letter on February 9.
Overall, the entire process was fast, professional, well-organized, and efficient. Communication was clear throughout, and each step moved along in a timely manner. Everyone I interacted with was courteous and respectful, which made for a smooth and positive candidate experience.
