      New Graduate Software Engineer Interview

      25 Feb 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Bloomberg (London, England) in Dec 2020

      Interview

Round 1: 2 easier Medium difficulty leetcode questions. (Passed) round 2: 1 leetcode easy, 1 leetcode medium, and 1 leetcode medium. Solved the first two fully and ran out of time for the last one, but I explained how it would be done. There was a behavior portion as well were you had to talk about your past projects and work experience. (Passed) Round 3: System design, but it wasn't super hard. You didn't need to know the names of specific technologies. They mostly wanted to see if you had a good intuition. (Passed) Round 4: 90 minute behavior interview with HR and a Eng. I felt like it was really hard to talk to the HR and the Eng. I felt like they didn't let me speak and just kept asking me questions that didn't make any sense. For example rather then asking me a question like "tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult co-worker", they asked me about a specific group project and wanted me to answer the latter question in context of the group project despite that particular situation having no conflict and the project being really small. I felt if I was asked more broad questions the conversation could have flowed better. (Failed) The feedback I got was that I was very technically strong but I didn't sound passionate enough about Bloobmerg. I felt a bit peeved since I went through a lot to pass the technical rounds and I was passionate about SWE and Bloomberg. I had a really positive experience until the last round. The technical rounds were on the easy side. The interview process was very long since you only got the next round if you passed the current round and there was a 2 week delay between each round.
