      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at CENTROID (Howard, PA) in Aug 2017

      Interview

Probably one of the stranger interviews I had, as I continually search for a job. It all started with a search on Craigslist in the State College area. I sent my resume over the website I was redirected to, which was Centroid located in Milesburg, PA. A couple of days later, what I believe was a head engineer there, called me and didn't really question my resume but notified me that he was going to send a skill assessment at a time I scheduled for myself. The assessment contained 5 different files and tested my: mechanical, physics, computer, coding, and logical background. After I had submitted that about 3 hours later, I waited for about a week for a response. After I sent an email to see where I stood, I get a call from the head engineer again and he wants me to come to Milesburg and tour the plant there. So that day came, and there wasn't really a tour but another assessment that caught me off guard. It was series of C++ functions that I had to define myself, and within the hour and thirty minute time limit I got around 5 of the 7 functions. Then I was shown out, because the head engineer had left the plant and I was stuck with the two hardware/software people that were monitoring the test. They were very nice and showed me the FPGA and other programs that test their lathes and routers there. Later, I email them and thank them for their time for thoughts of the worst. Then I got a call about 3 days later and he offered me a trainee job were I'd get paid $14/hr($29000/year) with possibility of salary advancement determine by my work. After much reasoning and internet fact checking, I called him back and said given the area and the work I'd be doing, I'd need to be paid a minimum of $20/hr. I know this is entry level/trainee but I know of a multitude of topics/languages from college. He told me I'd start out doing PLC work(stuff I wasn't familiar with, but heard about through school) and a variety of other projects. And the minimum in the area for a software coder was around $38,000. So take it from me, don't waste your time with this company, they don't have a sound HR structure unless your looking for that. Everything seems in a small amount of disorder. I wonder how many people there are severely underpaid? Also don't apply for a job you found on Craigslist.
