I received an email: "please come for a personal interviews at <time> <date>"
On the day of the interview I was given form to fill out before the interview which only asked for contact information, college education/degree & major GPA. I noted that most of the walls were covered with gloomy signs about cancer causing agents, lab safety reminders, calenders and other things that were equally lighthearted. The workers also seemed equally gloomy.
The interview started with "So I see you studied X Major at Y University... but why is your GPA only Z?"
It was at this point that (I believe) the person interviewing me completely lost interest in anything I had to say - despite the fact that I had numerous achievements in positions similar to that which I was being interviewed for.
My assessment is that this establishment is centered around getting college students/recent graduates to do a lot of highly technical and monotonous work for as cheaply as possible. This is based off of several help-wanted ads I've seen:
Lab Tech Plant Tissue culture: position involves extracting underdeveloped seeds from seedless grapes & transfer to growth media using aseptic technique. Dissect seeds under microscope & transfer embryos to culture media. Position involves working long hours in laminar flow hood. Looking for people for multiple shifts. **Compensation: $8.50/hr**
That is all.
