Ciena interview question

Candidates are given three possible projects to choose from: designing a control system using Octave, Python, or MATLAB; designing a digital filter according to specified requirements; or writing a program to estimate the transfer function given some data. Typically, candidates have approximately two weeks to complete the chosen project and write a comprehensive report. The estimated time to finish the assignment is around 20 hours.
