The interview process was kind of strange. Particularly, I was asked a few questions about my old firm that I wasn't entirely comfortable responding with an in-depth answer, considering a lot of connectivity aspects of trading are looked at as a secret sauce. I was also asked a few technical questions regarding the basic structure of systems/connectivity that I responded to with a correct answer by saying "you would do X, Y, and, Z," only for the interviewer to say, "I believe its X, Y, and Z (the same thing)." Again, it was pretty basic stuff, and I knew I was correct, and I certainly take steps to be an effective communicator in all professional settings. I don't know if he simply just wasn't listening, or the lapse was due to another factor; but again, it was strange.
Lastly, the person interviewing me seemed very robotic and rigid, to the extent that I don't think they were just putting on the typical interviewer guise. When I asked them about how the team interacted with each other on a personal level, the response was, "we don't discriminate against other employee." I found that to be a bit of a strange response, on top of the fact that one would certainly expect that level of respect at the absolute bare minimum. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and chalked it up to a misunderstood question and then asked him If the team interacted at all outside of the workplace, and he said, "we do yearly team building event. " Awesome, man you're really selling a picture of pure comradery there with the mandatory firm outings once every few months. Point being: don't try to use any charisma to your benefit, it isn't worth your time.
Aside from that, I would say the interview was very standard for a technical role. Didnt really ask me anything about myself, didnt really drive the conversation, and asked me a few purely technical questions about FIX and SQL. Interviewer also was a little difficult to understand. He spoke pretty softly and had a heavy accent.
