      Sales Assistant Interview

      27 May 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
Saint Helens, North West England, England
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Currys (Saint Helens, North West England, England) in May 2021

      Interview

I was refered to the job by a friend who worked at the store, applied online and had an interview about 2 weeks later. The first thing they discussed was my availability and what areas of the store I would like to work in, then I had to do some exercises on the shop floor, the first was to find out an interesting fact from 2 members of staff. This part was fun and the staff I spoke to were friendly and chatty. Although, one member of staff I spoke to said that "the managers don't know what they're doing half the time". The second task was to think of someone I know well and chose a product from the shop floor, explaining why they would benefit from this product. Then I sat in a small room with 2 interviewers who asked me questions. The people interviewing me were very low energy and didn't seem interested at all; it felt like they were just reeling off questions and writing down my answers, it was the most boring interview I've ever had. They had no interest in me as a person, even though they were aware that I know somebody who works at that store, and I could tell that they hadn't read my CV. Also, I got to ask them some questions at the end, first I asked what a normal day is like here. They looked at each other and were quiet for some time, before saying that as they are managers they can't really say what it's likes for sales assistants?? That tells me that they don't give two poops about their staff. Secondly, I asked about any training courses they offer. They told me that if you want to work in, for example, the TV department, you will recieve training.. to me this isn't training, this is just what they should do before you are allowed to sell certain products. Also, I know this is untrue as my friend used to work on computers and got told to switch to TVs permanently one morning and recieved no training. They then said they would discuss my answers and chat with the staff who I spoke to previously and get back to me, but that it can take a while to hear back. All in all, I walked out of that interview feeling pretty down and like I had wasted my time.

      Interview

Fairly easy, staff were friendly and a smooth process. The employers do not make you feel pressurised, it helps when you have previous sales experience but if you show them you are eager to learn and are engaged in tech. they'll definitely want you.
