I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at DC Comics in Mar 2024
Interview
The conversations I had were consistently friendly and courteous, including with the Editor-in-Chief. The main problem with the experience was that the salary listed online was very different from what they said was available: instead of the salary range $38,511 - $71,521 included in the job posting, I was told in the first interview that 55-57k was the true range. I stated that my salary expectation was based on the job posting and prior professional experience, but I agreed to continue with the interview process because I hoped there would be room for discussion. It wasn't until after a good interview with the EIC that I was informed the salary for this role absolutely could not go any higher, and that I needed to decide whether that was a dealbreaker before things went any further. It was, and so I declined to continue.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I was asked how I would handle a few different common challenges in editorial, like delayed production, creative differences, a heavy caseload, etc. I was also asked to propose a few artists and writers for their hypothetical projects.
