      Software Engineer Interview

      8 Jun 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at DialogTech (Chicago, IL) in Jun 2015

      Interview

I had one thirty min screening interview with recruiter about more general stuff (eg project etc). That was then followed by a longer more technical interview about past projects with a developer, more high level type conversation. Finally I was brought in to talk with senior people (CEO meets every candidate) and do some white boarding. Overall they seemed like a really nice group.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Asked about previous projects, string manipulation etc.

      Software Engineer Interview

      11 Nov 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at DialogTech (Chicago, IL) in Nov 2020

      Interview

I will start out with the disclaimer that like many introverts, I am not particularly gifted at demonstrating my prowess as an engineer in technical screenings. Were I in the interviewer's shoes, I would not have passed me either. That being said, I do not feel that they did much to set me up for success either. The technical screenings ranged from challenging to very difficult, depending on who I was speaking with. Step one was a brief phone screening with the recruiter. Step two was a phone technical screening with the Director of Professional Services. He was very friendly and I genuinely enjoyed our conversation. Step three was a virtual "onsite" interview, which consisted of four back-to-back video calls with various engineers and members of management. Some of them were very clear about their expectations with me, such as having me talk through how I solve a problem, even if I don't arrive at the correct solution. Others tended to take a more interrogative tone and would ask open-ended questions without clear expectations, and then interrupt to ask me to answer differently. There was no take-home challenge or live coding. Again, I don't blame them for not passing me, but don't expect many softball questions. They put me through the wringer.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

There were some questions about projects listed on my resume, some questions about my career aspirations, some non-technical brain teasers, and some open-ended questions intended to probe my knowledge about particular technical topics (ex: DevOps, RESTful APIs, SQL queries).
