      Business Development Manager Interview

      6 Oct 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Mulgrave
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Easy Weddings (Mulgrave) in Oct 2019

      Interview

I had three interviews with this company. The first one I was taken for a coffee with their events manager and COO even though I initially spoke to their sales manager. They explained a new concept they were working on where they wanted to sell events directly to Bride and Grooms on behalf of the venues that were their customers. I was pumped for information about my work history in particular the venues I had worked for. At the end of it the COO said that if I was interested to let him know. It was quite taken aback at the interest in my previous employers other than my own experience but said I was interested. The next interview was with the CEO. Although somewhat pleasant his questions probed into my support network and ability to manage being a mother to small children while working. He also ended the interview with 'I hope I haven't wasted my time' which I thought was rude. For my third interview I was forwarded back to the Sales Manager who asked me similar questions including questioning my ability to manage my parenting responsibilities and work full time. When I asked about the role that I had applied for he said 'oh we have filled that', we are just trying to assess if there is another role you might be suitable for. He said he would have a think about it and get back to me. I was confused about why it had taken three interviews to say that they weren't even sure if there was a role. He never even contacted me back - I had to eventually message the CEO on LinkedIn to ask for feedback as to why after three interviews I hadn't even had a response from them. Clearly, they were pumping me for customer and industry information. They were completely disrespectful of my time and employment search. Two of the men are clearly misogynistic against women because I can't see them asking any of the male candidates some of these inappropriate questions.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What is your support network like? Do you think you can manage working and looking after young children? What was the sales data of the businesses you have worked for? Tell me about XXX venue's marketing activities?

At Easy Weddings we understand how important the recruitment process is and how thorough it needs to be to ensure it's a successful appointment for both the company and the candidate. With that in mind, we consider a number of aspects before hiring someone, relevant industry experience being very important - hence so many questions around it. We apologise the process can be time consuming depending on the volume of applications we receive and, we understand, frustrating for some applicants.
