I came to Glassdoor to check if anyone else felt the same way, and I saw two other reviews that shared similar experiences with abrasive interviews and uncomfortable interactions.
I wanted to share an experience I had during a phone screening and see if anyone else has gone through something similar. During the interview, I was caught off guard by how the recruiter was both abrasive and, at times, surprisingly kind. She was very direct, especially when discussing salary. When I mentioned that my salary expectations depended on benefits and commission, she immediately interrupted me, calling it evasive, and insisted on a specific range. She then went on a rant about it before I could even finish my sentence. Ultimately, my salary range ended up being on target. When I acknowledged her directness and mentioned I appreciated it, she seemed to soften a bit, and the conversation shifted in a more professional direction.
The recruiter asked only two questions during the entire interview: "How do you stay motivated when facing challenges?" and "How do you manage tight deadlines?" These were more specific and felt a bit out of place for an entry-level sales role, and I was already feeling a little rattled by the earlier conversation. I did my best to answer, but the whole experience had me feeling uneasy.
When she asked if I had any questions, I asked about a typical day for an SDR and the type of training they provide, since mentoring is important to me as someone making a career pivot. She responded in a way that felt dismissive, almost like I shouldn’t have asked, saying, "Why would I know that? That’s something the person on the team would know." Her tone made it feel like I was asking a dumb question.
If anyone is reading this before an interview, I’d suggest preparing yourself for the salary question.
