Freelance Back of House Captain Interview

      5 Jul 2016
      Anonymous employee
      New York, NY
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Events by RHC (New York, NY) in Apr 2014

      Interview

Static. Formulaic. Very visually based, behavior based, fundamentally sound. Very diverse. This is not a criticism of this specific company, but an observation of the interview process. We now have "human resources" departments at many companies. Human Resources have to do the formal interview, glance-over, and background process of companies both to provide companies with the best available employees and protect the employers from possible hiring violations. I understand. This is a lot of work, but much of it is taught in schools. What schools can not teach, is the subtle nuances of every industry and every company within that industry. My greatest criticism of every company is that the people in Human Resources, don't understand the qualities that make up different positions and performance levels at the myriad of positions within a company. They draw up "job descriptions" that often are gibberish. Often, job descriptions can't be matched because the combination of requested qualities can't be obtained, or found within the designated price range of employment. The words I used at the top of this critique actually put Sonnier & Castle in the higher levels of job interviews I've seen and been a participant on both sides of the table.

      Question 1

What was background experience. Why did I want to work with them. Who had I worked with previously.
