I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Fisher Investments (San Mateo, CA) in Jul 2019

      Interview

Applied through a recruiter. Was given a timed online test (multiple choice, short answer, and coding questions). The test does not tell you at the beginning how many questions of each kind there will be. This totally takes away your ability to plan your time adequately. This unheard of.

      Interview

Met with the hiring manager and a senior dev on the team. Spent most of the time going through my resume to understand past experience, along with some behavioral questions. Also set aside time to talk about the team & why they're hiring for this role.

      Software Developer Interview

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Fisher Investments in Aug 2023

      Interview

There's a 30-60 minute phone call with a recruiter. In my call they went over the location and work expectations (30 days on-site, then you're allotted 100 days/year can be remote), the position, then a series of screening type questions in the form of "do you have experience with x?" or "how many years have you worked in y?" where you essentially get to repeat what's on your resume. The benefits sounded nice (100% paid healthcare/dental/vision coverage for you and dependents), but being an investment service firm there is a fiduciary component, so you won't be able to day-trade or invest unhindered independently. For my call, the recruiter was not technical even though the role was so the Q/A session was a bit choppy. For the specific role I was discussing (.NET Developer) there was some bits that set off some warning bells, at least for me. From what I could gather it sounds like the product is a legacy framework product that was being migrated to .NET core and eventually Azure, so if you are hoping to work on modern tech this may not be that position (currently). Another potential red flag is the recruiter mentioned there was a 70% front end / 30% back end split in which they use Angular, so more of a front end role than .NET for day-to-day. I'm primarily back end so I pointed this out and the recruiter indicated that while there was a heavy front-end split, there was no experience expectation other than JavaScript (?!) so I'm sure that code base is an absolute joy to read. No mention of TypeScript if that's your bag. They did mention they're a Jira shop for those of you who love/hate Jira.

      Question 3
