1. Application & screening
You apply online through their careers portal. HR reviews your resume and may do an initial screening call. This is usually a short conversation to confirm experience, work rights, salary expectations, and availability—especially important for FIFO roles.
2. First interview (behavioral + role fit)
This is typically with a hiring manager and/or HR. Expect a mix of:
Behavioral questions (often using STAR format)
Questions about safety mindset (this is big at Fortescue)
Role-specific experience
They’re looking for alignment with Fortescue’s values—things like integrity, teamwork, and innovation.
3. Technical or second interview
For technical roles (engineering, UX, IT, etc.), there’s often a deeper dive:
Case studies or scenario-based questions
Portfolio review (for design roles)
Problem-solving or situational challenges
For operational roles, this might instead focus on practical experience and site scenarios.
4. Psychometric / assessments (role dependent)
Some roles require:
Aptitude or cognitive tests
Personality assessments
Possibly medical questionnaires (especially for site roles)
5. Final interview / panel (sometimes)
Senior roles may include a panel interview or a final conversation with leadership.
6. Pre-employment checks
Before an offer:
Medical assessment (including drug & alcohol screening for site roles)
Police clearance
Reference checks
7. Offer & onboarding
If successful, you receive an offer, followed by onboarding. For site-based roles, this includes safety inductions and training.
