Sr. Software Engineer - QA Interview

      23 Aug 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Fortis Games in Feb 2025

      Interview

Of the countless interviews I've had in my career as a QA Engineer, this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. The initial stages were fairly straightforward - an initial hr screening, then a more technical interview. After that is a massively complex take home assignment that'll take up many hours, and then FOUR additional interviews with technical questions for the role. Three of these went well and felt professional, but I had a hard time understanding and hearing questions from one of them with a thick French accent; and I got a borderline hostile demeanor from him. I have to wonder if that was the deciding factor here in not getting an offer. So after this exhausting ordeal, I didnt get an offer on account of just not having enough experience in one of the required skill sets - even though I was completely transparent about that in my resume and during the interview process. I feel like time was completely wasted here, and would never apply for a position again. What really prompted me to write this review, was seeing this role just reposted again for the 3rd or 4th time in the last year. They're looking for a unicorn of experience with Unity knowledge (a rare enough skill), but also the experience and knowledge of a DevOps engineer, the programming knowledge of a developer, and the testing experience of a QA analyst. If you have 85-90% of the requirements, you wont get hired and I implore anyone else reading this to not apply for this specific role. The saddest part of this ordeal is that they really seem to be trying to improve their interview process; they comment on every negative review here, and they actually offered feedback after the rejection (which is rare). But finding out you weren't hired because you just didnt have enough of one skill set (in an practically impossible matrix of requirements expected from a single candidate), and seeing the position reposted yet again, is a painful reminder of the time I wasted interviewing here. I don't really have advice for the company, other than there's a reason you've been reposting this role for a year now - the unicorn candidate youre looking for doesn't exist.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We understand that going through interviews requires a lot of time and effort, and we are sorry to hear that your experience felt frustrating. Our process is designed to be thorough to ensure a great long-term fit for both our candidates and our team. We’d like to clarify that no single interviewer’s feedback makes the final call; we evaluate performance across all interviews to make a holistic decision. We also want to share that if you see a role posted multiple times, it may indicate that we’re hiring for more than one opening to meet the demands of our scaling business. We appreciate your feedback and wish you the best in your job search!
