I applied online for an entry-level Staff Geologist position and was contacted by email about 2 months later. About a week after that I went to the interview. It was conducted by two people, the branch manager and one of the VPs. Both were very nice people and I really enjoyed just having a discussion with them. They didn't ask any really technical questions, just went down my resume to clarify certain things.
It was apparent from the get-go that the interview was less to ascertain my technical prowess, and more to determine if I was personally a good fit for the company.
Like I said, it was more of a friendly conversation than an interview. I left feeling very confident.
The next day I sent them writing samples of reports I'd written.
10 days later I received an offer.
