I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at GameStop in Mar 2013
Interview
Filled out application online February 11 2013. got a call from a regional about 3 weeks later, and interviewed with two guys in the food court of the mall I didn't feel that it went well, and i usually interview pretty well... but 2 weeks later got a call from a store manager, had an interview 2 days later with him. he said the first two guys were impressed, and he asked usual questions, and got to know me a little more.
They are more concerned with your selling abilities. They DO NOT care if you play games or not. Let them know that at other jobs, you always reached your goals, and gave great customer service. Don't think telling them that you have 5 games on reserve, or beat a game in a day, or have a retro collection at home will get you in because it will not.
dress nice, be personable.
Very simple and easy going. First was a group interview and then an official secondary interview at the store. Everything was communicated very well and all questions were relevant to experience needed.
I was asked several behavioural questions, to determine my suitability for working in a retail environment. The focus was on my ability to learn and understand the store rules, as well as be able to handle customer needs. Very little was asked about video games.
