      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at GlobalFoundries (Malta, NY) in Aug 2017

      Interview

I applied online through the company career site by submitting my resume and filling out the online application. Additionally I sent a copy of my resume to a contact at GLOBALFOUNDRIES. This will become relevant shortly. The following day I was contacted via email and invited to complete the Selectrak Online Assessment. I didn't find the assessment difficult, I've been in the industry for quite some time; the technical sections were easy as were the psychological if you've spent any time in a corporate environment, that is to say you know what generally good morals and ethics are. The assessment email indicates that upon completion results will be given to you as well as the positions you qualified for, which were not provided even after being requested. I emailed the generic recruiting account informing them the assessment was complete and was almost immediately contacted by a Talent Acquisition staffer for a short (<10 min} phone screen and was informed I would be contacted to make arrangements for an on-site interview for the same position in a different area than I applied for. Not a big deal really. Travel arrangements were made, GLOBALFOUNDRIES only conducts on-site interviews when they have a group of selected applicants, more on this later. Two days before the interview I was emailed directions to the site and the interview itinerary. The reason that GF holds interviews when they have a group is because they have a team exercise to evaluate how the prospective hires perform in a group, under time constraints, with detailed instructions. I found this to be somewhat redundant since the online assessment had a psychological screen. After the 1.5hr group exercise (building vehicles on an assembly line, covering purchasing, quality control and following build orders) I met with the Talent Acquisition staffer and two managers (hiring and one of his reports) for about 30 minutes each. Questions were a mix of technical and personality. I felt it went well. Then the wait. I expected there to be some wait but given that I was told there was a push to fill positions, I didn't expect it to take more the a well or so. After 18 days and no response, my contact reached out to me and said they, HR presumably, were waiting on additional information from me. I checked what they were asking for and found that it was there so I emailed Talent Acquisition and let them know. Two days later I was contacted to confirm the updated information that I had sent to the person calling me and was told the everything looked good and he would resubmit the offer. It took another 6 days for an offer to be generated and it wasn't for the area I had interviewed with but the one my contact worked in. No notice, no explanation. Additionally, I enquired multiple times about benefit costs and was never given them or any explanation as to why they weren't given. The only benefit that was given any detail was the non-negotiable relocation package that was a lump sum paid in the first or second paycheck. Considering my move was from out of state and the substantial upfront cost, let alone the tax hit of having the money distributed with a regular check, this was a huge concern. Initially I was very excited about going to work for GF and received an acceptable offer. However, after considering the offer, the area and the interview process, I passed. It really gave me a bad sense of how they treated their employees as all of the forward progress after the interview came from my contact making inquiries with HR.
