Interview
Applied online. I appreciate that they included the interview dates in the job description. Offered an online interview with two interviewers over video call. The job description wasn't that clear, but (being a journalist) I assumed that it would be predominently journalism because it was listed first, and because I was offered an interview, despite not having a great deal of campaigning experience.
In the interview, it became clear this wasn't really a journalism role as I would recognise it, but it also appeared that the interviewers didn't have a very clear sense of what the role would entail. It is possible this was because my lack of campaigning experience.
However, I asked some pretty basic questions they couldn't answer, such as who my manager would be, what projects I'd be working on, or even what kind of outputs they would expect. I felt like I spent a lot of the interview asking them to clarify what the job actually is, which they never really answered.
They admitted that they are restructuring, and I was left with the impression that they don't know what the job would entail, which seems like a very strange time to be hiring.
I wasn't offered a second interview, which didn't surprise or offend me. Despite the very generous salary on offer, I'm not sure I'd have taken the role if offered unless there was a lot more clarity on what the job would actually entail in the second interview.
