I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Growth Lending (London, England) in Sept 2020
Interview
Initial phone call with People Advisor, followed by a work/skills based interview. This was followed up by a second interview based more so on personality and behaviours.
The first video interview was fine, questions around work history, type of clients and lending experience you had dealt with - all standard content. This was a positive discussion and the fact my experience was viewed as a plus gave me some hope that this would be a great role to step into.
The second interview was held with Head of Relationship and an in-house occupational psychologist. This particular interview was more like an interrogation. I was picked up on using a very (I thought) neutral way of describing conflicts within a team environment. At times the questioning was a little confrontational and didn’t present a good view of the working landscape.
As someone with 20 years plus experience in banking-the point of this being a young team was repeatedly made and consequently I felt I would not fit in.
The Head of Relationship said virtually nothing and left it all to the Psychologist, who I’m afraid came across as quite overbearing at times. I was told that I would hear back soon on the application.......5 weeks later I found out and unsurprisingly I was not successful.
While I am naturally disappointed at not securing the role, I felt that waiting 5 weeks to have this confirmed was quite poor. This information was only given after a couple of chase up emails with the People Advisor. All in all this was not a great experience and the lack of care and professionalism displayed, made missing out a blessing in disguise.
