I have concerns about this company's hiring process. The first interview is standard, a video call with the hiring manager to discuss the role. However, the next step is an assignment that must be completed within 48 hours. My impression is that this assignment is designed to extract free labor and does not contribute to a reasonable hiring process. If you are interviewing, I recommend considering whether this is a process you are comfortable with. Furthermore, during the interview process, the hiring manager repeatedly boasted about the company only hiring the best people and how smart everyone is at the company. This left a negative impression on me and demonstrated a potential lack of humility or experience. I understand this is a startup, but I have worked for four startups in the past and have never felt so turned off by a company. I feel compelled to write this review, which is something I have never done before. As part of the hiring process, there is a take-home assignment that requires candidates to name two product management or startup books they have read. For each book, they are asked to list three main insights and elaborate on how these insights could be applied to the company. I have concerns about the use of this assignment to extract free labor and to use the ideas of candidates without offering any compensation or credit. Overall, I suggest that applicants carefully consider whether they are comfortable with the hiring process and the company culture before deciding to apply.
