I was contacted through a third party recruiter 1st Interview is fairly exploratory, nothing major The 2nd interview was supposed to be a practical business case/real work item (according to the hiring manager from the first interview). In preparing for the second interview, I asked my contact at the hiring agency if there was any software I was expected to have on my machine prior to interviewing and was told no. I had to spend part of the interview scared to death, trying to regain composure about the fact that not only was the premise of the interview not what was described but I had arrived unprepared. We had to spend part of the interview attempting to get some of the prerequisites in order so that we could continue. The interview itself was not difficult, but it was really anxiety inducing being thrown off like that. I think more coordination between the hiring manager, the team, and the third party recruiter would be a considerate step they could take to make sure everyone gets the same opportunity. *This last bit is largely speculation - I have a minor disability that affects my appearance and is pretty easy to spot, and one of the interviewers, upon me turning my camera on, began to force himself to stifle laughter for the first few minutes of the interview. Which was really upsetting and unprofessional. People from all walks of life exist and we shouldn't have to worry about having our dignity brought into question when doing something as simple as applying for a job.
