1. Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology (e.g., B.E., B.Tech.) or M.Sc. in related areas like Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science.
Typically, a minimum of 60% or 6.5 CGPA (55% or 6.0 CGPA for SC/ST/PwD) is required.
GATE Score:
A valid GATE score in CS (Computer Science) or a related discipline is usually required.
Exception: Some categories (like IIT graduates with high CGPA) may be exempt.
2. Application Process
Apply online via IIT Madras's Research Admissions Portal during the admission cycle.

3. Selection Process
Shortlisting: Based on your academic record, GATE score, and other credentials.
Interview/Written Test: Shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview, and sometimes a written test.
Topics usually include Algorithms, Data Structures, Programming, Mathematics, etc.
4. Admission Cycles
Two admissions cycles per year:
January intake: Applications open around September–October.
July intake: Applications open around March–April.
5. Types of MS Programs
MS by Research (Thesis-based): You’ll work under a professor on a research topic.
It typically takes 2–3 years to complete.
Funding is usually provided in the form of a monthly stipend (~₹12,400/month).
