      Principal Engineer Interview

      9 Feb 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Fremont, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Inphi (Fremont, CA) in Dec 2017

      Interview

Recruiter was very positive and spent more than an hour to discuss and understand my background, credentials and career preferences. He was responsive and arranged hiring manager interview. I felt that the hiring manager was not well prepared to ask questions consistent with the position or my credentials. I felt the questions were too basic for an experienced position and candidate. Unfortunately, the hiring manager was hung up on trying to get the name of the project managers who I worked with 10 years ago rather than knowing my competency level. Also, the hiring manager cut me off before finishing my answer many times and seem easily irritated. Hiring manager’s description of the job also had some discrepancy from what was posted. I thought this is it and made up mind to move on. To my surprise, a follow up interview was arranged by an individual who reported to this hiring manager. Again, I felt the questions were too basic for the open position. At least this individual was more cordial and was willing to listen to my responses. In the initial screening, recruiter projected that the organization has great business growth plans and was looking for candidates like me with excellent credentials. However the hiring manager and her report who interviewed wanted to maintain status quo. There was disconnect. Eventually I got regret mail. I was not interested in a job that require me to just maintain status quo. So it was not a good fit for me either.
