      Senior Java Developer Interview

      10 Oct 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Utrecht
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at JPoint (Utrecht) in Sept 2025

      Interview

TL;DR: Mostly nice and smooth, offer phase was a total scam. They use a fairly standard three-step process. My first interview (in person) was a basic introduction, during which I shared my salary expectations, to which I got a positive response. Before the second interview (in person with two employees) I had to complete five core Java tests through a remote desktop environment with a time limit of around 30 minutes per test. The automated result assessment gave me a score far above average; during the interview that followed, they hardly even mentioned the tests. So far, these were pleasant interviews. That's when we got to the offer and things got weird. This meeting (online) started with an offer way below the requirements I mentioned during the first interview, and even sneakily included travel expenses and training budget as part of the salary. It also erroneously showed my current salary as being based on 100% employment, even though I indicated I'm on 80% - which was corrected on the spot for a better comparison. I expressed my surprise (considering the first interview) to which I got the reply that they lost the notes from that session. I was then asked to meet for a followup and to supply a recent payslip in the meantime, which struck me as odd, but I decided to send a redacted copy anyway. They then replied saying this gave them new insights as they previously misunderstood the numbers I gave them about my salary - to which I replied they already had the right numbers, because we were actually looking at those during the initial offer meeting. Anyway, we met online for a followup, where I was presented with the exact same numbers as during the first session (as I expected) as new insights - well, "exact", judging from a screenshot I took during the first meeting, they actually slightly lowered the initial offer! I had one last meeting with the same person a few days later, during which I expressed my displeasure with this part of the interview. Their excuse was that "to err is human" - sure, but making the exact same mistake twice in one day... I don't know. I feel like I wasted my time, getting an insult of an offer despite clearly setting salary expectations during the first interview.
