      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Just Brands in Apr 2026

      Interview

Disjointed and somewhat confusing overal. I applied online, around three weeks later I was invited for an interview. We did this online, another 7-10 days later I was invited on a Friday for an in-person meeting the following Monday. I was not available and requested to reschedule, I was then sent several meeting invitations (including somebody elses invite who was interviewing for a different position, and others for placeholder dates that were cancelled). Eventually, I attended a second in-person interview which seemed to go went very well. I followed up after this twice requesting feedback and information about timelines and next steps, around 10 days later I finally received an email stating I would be given feedback by the end of the week. Feedback: I was told I although I they believed I would be good at the job and could manage it well, I ws not the culture fit they were looking for. Upon probing what this meant further, I was told they didn't think I could handle the chaotic nature of the company and role. Throughout my interview process no questions about how I deal with chaos were mentioned, and they were aware from my career history which we discussed in detail, that I had come from much larger, more complex organisations and had experience in high-pressure political roles with complex stakeholder groups, and therefore I was very comfortable with everything they described. The only thing I can imagine that prompted their choice was in my second interview they probed me about what kind of team and culture I wanted. I shared I was part of the LGBTQ+ community, and asked how the company culture for LGBTQ+ people was. I was assured there were plenty of queer people at the company, particularly in the design department, and everyone could freely be themselves at work. I do wonder if the interview outcome had been different had I not mentioned and enquired about this, as it is the only thing I can see that could have swayed a decision. They also shared they're still interviewing and hiring, and had nobody lined up for the role which they had pitched as urgent and needed filling quickly as the previous PO had already left because they could not handle the volume of pressure and pushback enough. Lastly, they mentioned lots of pressure for profit increases from their latest investor ParCom. Upon investigating ParCom, it turns out they invest in military and defence technology.
