      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      28 Jan 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Lightricks

      Interview

My recent interview experience with Lightricks left me questioning the fairness and transparency of their process. After completing a take-home task to design a web crawler, followed by a successful technical round with senior engineers and researchers, I was informed about an additional round with the lead. The nature of this interview wasn't clearly communicated, and I was told by the HR it would be a background discussion round. When I did the interviewed, I was surprised that it was yet another technical round based on the same take-home task. It felt unprofessional to have additional technical rounds introduced after clearing what seemed like the standard process. This lack of clarity and structure in the interview process can be disheartening, especially for candidates who invest time and effort in the application and want to be assessed based on an agreed upon interview process.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Lightricks in Feb 2023

      Interview

TL;DR Don't ever go there! After the first screening phone interview, I had a technical interview of 1.5 hours with two team members from another team. Several days later I was notified that I passed this interview which means I will have to do a home assignment which they give me 1 week to submit!! 1 week! I really don't understand why would an employer send you a home assignment which requires more than 3-4 hours to complete?! what is the intention? that's how you filter out candidates? Anyway, I accepted to do the home assignment and agreed with the recruiter regarding the date of submission. I started to work on this home assignment a couple of days after the day I received it. To be honest, this is the most boring home assignment I've had in the 10 years of my career! It is totally unrelated to the position I've been interviewing for. Anyway, due to the fact I've been told I have 1 week for this assignment, I supposed I shouldn't finish it in one day. They apparently looking for the "extra stuff". Two days before submission, I contacted the recruiter to notify them that I will submit the assignment on time as agreed. On the same day later in the evening, they called me and notified me that someone else interviewing for the same position, finished the home assignment in 1 day, did already the interview afterward, and got accepted! I was fuming! I skipped a weekend with my family in order to finish the home assignment on time. I notified them two days before submission that I am going to submit the assignment on time. With all said, they decided to proceed with another candidate because he finished the home assignment in 1 day. You see, a 1 week home assignment has been finished in 1 day! I could finish it in 3 hours, but when they said we will give me 1 week, I supposed I should invest more time and effort in my solution. So unprofessional, pathetic, no transparency, no respect for the candidate and his time.... I could add more and more negative points for them.

      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      1 Feb 2023

      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Lightricks (London, England) in Jan 2023

      Interview

Initial interview with the recruiter who was incredibly nice and took her time to answer to any questions I had. 2 nd stage was a bizarre interview with the hiring manager who was like a robot reading some questions that you had to anwer. This lasted 15 mins and I didn't get a chance to ask A SINGLE question. Overall, very unpleasant experience. I didn't like the manager so no way I would like to progress my application but either way they didn't want to continue anyway. General advice, interview is a two way process, you cannot just filter out people like this, do pair programming, solve problems , discuss technology an so on.
