I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Litmus in Jun 2022
Interview
They sent a very tedious and involved coding project that took a full weekend to do. When I sent it out, they gave a generic rejection a few days later. No feedback at all on the project. I feel like a fool for putting so much time into it.
Unless you are desperate, STAY AWAY! These guys have a terrible interview process.

Implement a fully tested, real world, WebAPI with a database they provide.
Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We strive to provide a best-in-class candidate experience to everyone in our interview process. This isn't the type of experience that we want candidates to have at Litmus. We've since taken your feedback to improve our process going forward. -Amanda Myers, Talent Acquisition Director
The interview process is full of gimmicks and lazy interviewers. Stay away!
They interview via messaging on Slack to test your written communication skills. It is awkward, jarring and completely ridiculous to sit there watching a slow typer finish typing their message. Whatever happened to the good old way of hopping on a video call!
Next, they sent a 4-hour (yes it is that long) take home coding test. The standard across other companies I've interviewed seems to be no longer than 2 hours but these people assume you've got nothing better to do with your time.
The test itself was easy. I made sure I followed every instruction and everything worked exactly as intended. The response I received was completely baffling as the feedback I got reeked of laziness and disinterest on the evaluator's part.
These people don't even bother to test your code properly on their local machine to ensure it works. They expect you to go above and beyond the instructions to even stand a chance, what's the point of instructions if candidates can just go rogue. Plus having already spent 4 hours on this task isn't going to make me want to go the extra mile.
Additionally, most companies hop on a call after you send the coding test to explain your decisions, potential tradeoffs, etc. You get no such chance here!
Do not make the mistake of accepting a 4 hour coding test. They clearly don't value your time or effort.

Question 1
Build a status page showing current status and last 10 status messages.
Terrible hiring practices. They interview via TEXTING on Slack. I cannot stress how terrible this is and my wife thought that I was being scammed.
I was rejected nearly immediately and the only thing I could think of is that I wanted to respect the VP of software's time and end the interview on time.
Over the phone, it's easy to understand that this concern is non-confrontational and the person interviewing normally says "no big deal if we go over" and we move on. This did not happen because of typing. ...maybe I was scammed like my wife was thinking...

Thank you for sharing your feedback about your interview. We are sorry to hear that the interview was not what you expected.
In our job postings for our Engineering roles, we publish the full interview process steps for our candidates/interviewees—and email candidates on what to expect when selected for the Slack interview step.
We do this practice in order to ensure we provide a great candidate experience. We hope this information is helpful and sincerely wish you the best in your job search.
