      Key Account Manager Interview

      15 Jul 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Paris
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Manomano (Paris) in Jul 2020

      Interview

I initially applied for a different role but during the first interview with the HR she suggested me to proceed with another role in the same area. After one week, she called to tell me the role she mentioned during the first interview actually required more years of experience in e-commerce, she thus proposed me another role, always same area but at a bit lower level, she told me this role suited my level of experience in e-commerce. I proceeded with the second interview with a member of the team. She was very professional and kind. Both the first interview with the HR and the second one with the team member went very well and they gave excellent feedback when I asked for it. They told me I should have received a feedback about the next step of interview in one week. I waited for two and no news. I so emailed and called the HR, always very kind and sensitive to candidates needs, and finally after almost three weeks she told me they prefered candidates with more years of experience in e-commerce. Until here, I just found their recruiting process was not well defined as for the kind of profile they were looking for, actually they told me my e-commerce experience was suitable for the role and, suddenly, the only important thing is having more years in e-commerce. Anyway, we agreed about continuing the recruiting process for another role, always in the same field but more technical. Actually, this role suited even better my experience. The HR arranged and interview with the Manager in charge of the and this one was supposed to be the last interview, so a very technical one. The HR told me the interview would have been very technical oriented with also a part about my sales experience. The manager missed the first appointment and finally I had the video call one week later. Simply the poorest last interview ever. During one hour and 17 minutes, he proceeded as follows: -first he asked if we could speak French when, since the beginning of the process, I always said my French was basic; I highlight that French wasn't requested for the role but only a plus. The manager looked annoyed and we proceeded in English. -during one hour and 17 minutes of interview he asked if I liked living in France and why, again why I didn't speak French well, and if I liked DIY, I replied yes so he started a long conversation about what I made. That kind of conversation you can have with a friend but for sure not during the last interview. -the manager didn't even know it was my third interview and when I told him, he didn't know what to say about the recruiting process. -the manager didn't even read my CV. I understood it because he asked me the name of my last employer (I also had to spell the name because he didn't know it); he also asked me how many years of experience I had, this piece of information it's written on the top of my CV summary. Anyway, he din't know anything about my CV. -the manager asked me for a very personal question, namely if I had family (someone told me this is an illegal question during an interview, because it can be higly discriminatory). -last but not least, almost at the end of the interview the manager asked for a single technical question. The question was poorly explained and totally disconnected to the real management, just a mathematical test in my opinion. I correctly answered the first part of the question about spotting the missing data I needed to solve the problem, but I failed in understanding which math formula to apply. I then expected other analytical questions, but nothing else came. The manager just insisted to ask me a couple of questions in French although I repeated I had a basic level, it was very embarassing. He treated me like a baby you are teaching basic stuff and the questions were "What do you do in your free time?" and another one like this. He was ironicaly smiling while I answered with my poor French. The day after the HR called me to tell me I was not succesful because I failed the calculation part of the single analytical question the manager asked me. I replied that it was crazy basing the whole evaluation of a candidate only on one single question, especially if the resting part was pretty good and I got excellent feedback at all stages of the process.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Manomano (Paris) in Aug 2019

      Interview

First there was a phone call with the HR who set me up for another interview with the direct manager. I had another interview with the direct manager and another team member. In total, I had 3 job interviews at Manomano. The atmosphere was nice and professionnel. Nevertheless, the process took an unpleasant turning: Until today, I never heard back from Manomano. I invested time & preparation in multiple interviews and they just never gave me a feedback, not even a negative one. It's totally fine to be not the right match for a company, but where does this ghosting come from?! Super disappointing!
