      Coordinator Interview

      11 Apr 2022

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Marken (New York, NY) in Mar 2022

      Interview

Applied for a Coordinator position based at their Springfield Gardens facility. Was first contacted by a recruiter for a brief phone call. She explained the role in further detail, asked me some questions and let me know that she would be in touch with next steps. Very friendly and up front when I asked questions about the position. I was then scheduled for an 8:30am video call interview a few days later with a manager (who was listed as optional on the invite) and another coordinator (who I would learn during introductions was being promoted to a manager or some level above coordinator from another location). When the time came for the interview, I was on time and prepared to interview face to face (was in a quiet location, dressed as one would be for an interview). The manager did not join (understood) but the coordinator started the interview, off camera, saying she was driving to work during my call. So immediately, I was not receiving her full attention. I felt the questions were reasonable and would allow her to see if I was a good fit, but not having a direct conversation like most normal interviews are (virtual or in-person) made the experience slightly uncomfortable and gave me the impression that my responses were either falling flat or not being received in the right away since A. she wasn't seeing me and B. she wasn't prioritizing the interview over another task she was involved in (driving to work). Two weeks went by before I reached out, which I received a response to within an hour saying they have moved forward with other candidates. I responded to the recruiter, appreciative of her contacting me and to share my feedback on my interview. I received no response or acknowledgment of my concerns, but they were prompt to update my Indeed application status after that to no longer under consideration. Overall a dissatisfying experience, surprisingly polar opposite experiences from the recruiter to the actual interview. Sure things come up unexpectedly, but knowing you're interviewing someone for a job, take the call in an appropriate location where you can listen to your candidate or re-schedule. Candidates deserve the same respect they are giving potential employers.
