I went through an interview process that lasted over a month and involved multiple conversations with the same hiring manager with no real structure. Throughout the process, there were several last-minute cancellations, unclear expectations, and changes to the role as discussions progressed.
Despite these challenges, I continued because I was told there was strong alignment and was asked to provide references, including from my current employer. All references went well.
Shortly afterward, I was informed that business had slowed and the role would no longer be full-time. I was told they were not comfortable hiring someone for a part-time role if they were leaving a full-time position, effectively ending the process.
While I understand business needs can change, requesting references before there was clarity or commitment felt premature and placed me in an awkward position. Greater transparency earlier in the process would have been appreciated.
