I advanced through multiple stages of the interview process, including a one-hour phone interview, a one-hour in-person interview, a leadership assessment, and a credit check. During the process, specific projects I would potentially work on were discussed, along with a higher salary than what was posted, bonus opportunities that were not listed in the job description, and a reduced training timeline based on my background and experience.
While I appreciated the transparency about the role itself, these conversations created the impression that I was being seriously considered as a finalist. The interviewers were personable and professional, and I valued the time they invested. However, the level of detail shared about compensation, onboarding, and responsibilities made the eventual rejection feel unexpected.
I understand organizations need to complete full interview cycles, but clearer expectation-setting about where candidates truly stand in the process would have helped avoid mixed signals. Communication was polite throughout, though timelines shifted as additional first-round interviews continued after I had already completed advanced steps.
