I applied in-person. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Microlink Devices (Niles, IL) in May 2014
Interview
I heard about this internship opportunity through the CEO while on a company tour, so I followed up with an email to one of the senior managers and expressed interest. I included my resume in the email and was then invited for two 1-hour long on-site interviews. The first round was a 1-on-1 interview, in which I met with the senior managers who asked me about my research background and expertise; I was also asked a few behavioral questions. In the second round, I met with the team members with whom I would work closely during the summer. They asked me about my research and career interests. I got an offer a week later the second interview.
The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Microlink Devices (Niles, IL)
Interview
Phone interview first. Then a full day interview. 1 hour presentation on previous research. Discussions with several (4 or so) high level engineers and managers. Most of these were 1-on-1 with a new person entering the interview room when one was finished. They compare notes later and get back to you. This took a while longer than they said it would.
