I recently applied for the Content Writer role and had an initial conversation with the HR representative, who came across as kind and genuine. Following our interview, I was assigned a detailed content assignment, which I was told would be evaluated by the Senior Content Writer.
The assignment was extensive and required several hours of work, including writing content for push notifications, in-app messages, plan descriptions, and a full-length blog post. I completed the task with care and submitted it within the given timeframe.
After submission, I didn't receive any feedback until I followed up, at which point I was told the assignment had been received. A few days later, after another follow-up, I was informed that the role had been offered to an internal candidate.
While I understand that internal hiring decisions are sometimes made, I believe it's important to respect candidates’ time and effort, especially when assigning such detailed tasks. If a decision to hire internally had already been likely, I feel this could have been communicated earlier to avoid unnecessary work and misplaced expectations.
