      Editorial Assistant Interview

      19 Oct 2015
      Anonymous employee
      Washington, DC
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at NPR (Washington, DC) in Oct 2013

      Interview

After keeping in contact with an employee for sometime I got a heads up about a position opening and was introduced to the interim executive producer. She was polite and friendly, eager for me to start right away from checking my resume. But she still managed to ask condescending questions as if I were a fresh-out-of-college newbie and not a mid-career journalist. Borderline insulting.

      Interview

OOf this was really one of the worst interviews I've ever had. Disappointing for such an important news org! The recruiter didn't call or email me until 20 minutes after the scheduled interview. Whatever I get it, things come up, but when I picked up, he didn't apologize at all nor did he introduce himself, address me, or the position I was applying for. We rescheduled for the next day and he called me on time. He then, again, didn't address the position I was applying for, nor address me by my name. He seemed incredibly uninterested and I wasn't even sure if the questions he was asking were related to the position I applied for. The interview lasted maybe 7 minutes and he asked me to send him my portfolio afterwards. I asked for more details, should I include the entire length of the campaign or just the visual pieces I made, how much work should I send, etc etc, and he blew me off, just saying to send my portfolio. Absolutely terrible experience.
