      Software Engineer Interview

      23 Aug 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Nesto

      Interview

This was a while back but I hope they have streamlined the process. You have to go through a phone screen, do an unpaid take home project that'll take you a couple of days if you're a junior/intermediate dev, then a technical interview, then a cultural interview. I withdrew my application when I realized how much time and effort this will require for a tiny chance you they might employ you. The pay range was below average too for the time when the market was red hot. Go for it if you're unemployed I guess; it'd be good practice. If you get the job, that's a bonus. I imagine desperate of the desperate go through the process which puts the company in poor light for me personally.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Building a REST api with unit tests was the take home.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Nesto (Toronto, ON) in May 2025

      Interview

Avoid wasting your time applying here. The recruiter wants to probe you with quite abrupt questions rather than going through the experience. I see all the red alerts here while talking to the recruiter himself

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Why were you laid off? What is company building now? What is the company doing now after laying off people?

      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Nesto in Apr 2023

      Interview

The opening was for software engineers, and it specifically said Nesto would hire intermediate to senior devs based on their evaluation. I went through the process, spent about 8 to 10 hours in total working on the take home test and doing a technical interview with them. The take home test was a basic implementation of a REST api which they said I did very good on. The technical interview went very well too. Then the next day I get a call telling me they thought I was a very strong senior dev, but unfortunately they are looking for staff devs. Effectively they've wasted 10 hours of my life and 2 man hours of two of their devs time since I would not have applied for a staff position.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

How would you handle a system interrupt signal in Go.
