I applied online. The process took 12 months. I interviewed at New York Police Department (New York, NY) in Jan 2013
Interview
It is a long process... First the test... Which takes about 4 hrs very easy....Then interview... You sit with police communication techs and you learn more about the position... Fairly easy... You just fill out a lot of paperwork takes all day....If you pass then you go for your medical and psych exam which is like 5 am in the morning and lasts all day... Very difficult you take a personality test, drug test, vision test, hearing test, and psych exam all in one day. No eating there so it a huge breakfast! Then when you pass... You are assigned an investigator and have an interview where you must complete online paperwork prior to going and paperwork while you are there. Which can take hours.... Or more than one day... If you are hired your investigator will call you. For me it took about 2 years but the process is much faster now. Once you are hired you must be sworn in and then you start training. A test of more.... Every day for 6 weeks very hard.... But worth it....
