      Graduate Operational Improvement Consultant Interview

      4 Feb 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Bristol, England
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Newton (Bristol, England)

      Interview

Oline Tests - 2 tests, first was numerical, second was more applying logic/problem solving. Tests were of average difficulty. Video Interview - 3 questions, 30 secs to think and 1 min to answer. Very easy. Assessment Center: "Selling your partner" to the group (10 mins to get to know them then 3 mins to talk about them - difficult if they are boring/still half asleep). Group activity where you are given a real project and asked to improve it. You are then questioned about your choices and each person is asked a question they have to answer by themselves. Resit of the online tests (much more stressful when you are in a room with 7 other people to do them so be prepared) You then go for lunch while 'the judges deliberate". When you get back you are split into a staying for the afternoon session group and a going home group. I was sent home :'( Be prepared to meet some interesting characters... some of the people were a bit snooty. The only other thing I would add is that really read up on the company values as this is what they are marking you on. They also gave a presentation where they said that you "live out of a suitcase" (in a hotel) 4 nights a week and usually work 8-7, but its okay because they promise that you won't work past 6 on a Friday or on the weekends... so if you're like me and value your outside of work time then I would seriously reconsider this job. Yes it pays well but is it really worth it? The work they do and the job sounds great, but the company expects you to sell your soul for them.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Newton (Birmingham, England)

      Interview

Made it to the selection day, with around 30 people. We completed group exercises, doing maths problems and trying to make a company work more efficiently. After lunch, three of us were taken out from the rest, and told we were the only ones to make it through to the afternoon. Really kind staff members, but super high standards.

      Question 1

What you think you did well or badly during the day (to see if you knew your own strengths/weaknesses).

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Newton (Bristol, England) in Feb 2018

      Interview

Assesment Day The interview started with a 10minute Icebreaker where you talked with another applicant for 10 minutes and then for 2 minutes introduce this person to the rest of the group. Ths was then followed by an introductory presentation and video of the company and a description of the work expectations. The next stage of the interview included a group excersise relating to a past Newton project ( ours was relating to increasing efficiency on a shipbuilding project). In the task, each member of the team was given a report pertaining to a certain section of the project and had to identify and summarise the findings for the rest of the group. Following this, the group had to identify how the business worked, come up with a timeline and requirements to complete the task to the deadline then identify and solve problems to increase the efficiency of the project. Following there were 3 tests, one literacy, another numerical and the last one relating to supply chain management. Following these test, those chosen were taken for further interviews (sadly I was not). Feedback for the process is sent a week or two after the assessment day.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What would you do to shorten the length of the project so as to meet the deadline?
