      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual (Newtown, PA) in Jan 2012

      Interview

I was told about this job by a mutual friend who said there were looking for some new people in their office. I got a call from the recruiter a few days later to set up an interview and proceeded do so. The first interview was with the recruiter only and lasted about an hour asking mostly about my background and went down my resume. They asked what I felt were some odd questions, here are few examples, "Do you get a long well with your parents?" "Do you have siblings?" "Did you like your childhood?" A bit odd series of questioning to sell life insurance, but whatever. The interview was pretty easy the recruiter was taking all kinds of notes to save for the follow-up interview. The final question was for me to list a few friends I might know who wanted to work there as well, again a bit odd, when I first heard it but, I now know what they are up to. The second interview was with the managing director and lasted a bit over an hour. He went over this online personality test I had to take, I actually didn't score to well on it he said but they brought me back in anyway, I got a 10 out of 19. The test asked some pretty dumb questions It made me out to be dull, boring and lazy which is not the case. Anyway we went over that for a while and the compensation and training . It is all commission based, and during training you get paid up to 8k but you have to reach certain goals, each time you hit a goal IE schedule 25 appointments you get 1k, etc. Getting back to the interview, at the end the manager gave me "homework" which was bring in a list of 200 names and numbers of people that may be interested in selling insurance to, and I have to give a survey to 15 people I know, which consisted of questions about me, but the kicker was on the back there was space for them to list 10 people they know who would be interested in insurance and the guy actually said that's the main thing about the survey, to get names. I wasn't thrilled about doing this but gave it a shot I have about 100 names when I got the job I really wanted in another field so I dropped this like a hot potato. Even if I didn't get the other job I doubt I would continue with this, it would not have been for me, especially giving them names with out being hired, seems a bit odd. But if you think you are up to it, they seem like a good company, to work for, if you are all about money you will do fine there.
