I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual (Jersey City, NJ) in Apr 2013
Interview
The interview process was long, I first spoke with a representative on the phone about Northwestern and what the Internship is about. I then sent in my resume to a recruiter in which she requested that I come in for an interview. The interview was almost 100% personality questions, they then gave me an assignment to do including writing about my goals and taking a personality test. Once I completed that I was brought in for a final interview where I had to make a presentation in front of the Managing Director, recruiters, and veteran financial representatives. Although it seems challenging, looking back at it the interview process was not so bad as the employees there wanted to see you do well.

Question 1
What would you do if you had to open your own business?
There were four or five interviews, if you count the meeting with my future mentor. There were also a few personality assessments. Lots of paperwork. The finance industry is tightly regulated.
The first interview was easygoing and went fairly well. We talked a little on myself and what northwestern was all about. Because they wanted to see how I could fit in to their team and what I would bring.

Interview
The process was smooth and straight forward. A lot of behavioral based questions, but relaxed and low stress. First phase is a phone screening followed by a teams or in person meeting.
