I applied for the Public Relations and Social Media Internship. This is an unpaid internship position. The company scheduled a telephone interview and asked for portfolio work during the interview. However, during the telephone interview, the company was "attempt" to take advantage of me because of a particular skill set in journalism. Secondly, the company wanted me to take a writing blog skills assessment immediately, but another prospective employer sent me their skills assessment test with a due date deadline the day before this company was attempting to send their assessment to me. I could not complete two skills assessments on the same day and at the same time. The company was not understanding this especially when I genuinely told the company the full and absolute truth. The company agreed to send me writing skills blog prompt test on the week of August 12th even though they said that they might fill the internship position or choose another internship candidate, but I did not receive anything from them throughout the entire week of August 12th. I withdrew my candidacy and my application for the internship position as the company failed to send the writing blog skills assessment and were attempting to "use" me for a particular skill set. The entire hiring process made me feel and assumed that this company did not genuinely care about my candidacy and application as a prospective intern at all. This company and public relations internship are not for college students and college graduates who are majoring in journalism and have a journalism background. This company is trying to "use" journalism candidates for a particular skill set to meet the company's needs. A PR company firm is not for students, graduates and entry-level job candidates wishing to be a real journalist. Stay away from working at public relations (PR)/marketing firms if you truly know you want to be a journalist (reporter). Do not let any company try to take advantage of you for an internship position. I will never ever apply to this company again. Both parties wasted each other's time throughout the hiring process.
