I got contacted by a recruiter from Ontop, the interview process was just a couple of calls and a take home exercise. The take home was not complex itself but lacked a lot of information it is like they want you to ask them for details. While talking with the team I realized they have not a defined engineering structure and each team is going solo on their implementations. At a late stage of the process the recruiter that was taking care of my process left the company suddenly. She wrote me a message on her last day telling me someone would contact me. After a couple of days a new recruiter asked me for my availability and we set up a call. There he told we will be moving to the next step which was the contract and a background check and mentioned a verbal offer (not written) for much less than the range the first recruiter had mentioned. I asked him if that could be re-checked as it was not the original amount I had discussed with the first recruiter and he told me he would be back to me asap and asked me how fast could I join the team. I told him I wanted to leave my 2 weeks notice in my current job and he just wrote that. Today I got a new message telling me they’re moving on with another candidate, thankfully I didn’t mention anything to my current employer as there was no contract yet. In general I would not recommend to join Ontop unless you are in the open market. Processes are not standardized and salary ranges are super low for the current market. They got a new CTO who seems to be very knowledgeable so I hope he is able to fix the recruiting mess.
