I applied through other source. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at Own Company (New York, NY) in Feb 2022
Interview
Applied many months ago. Nearly 2.5 months later I got an email requesting to meet via Zoom.
Met with a UK recruiter. I passed the sniff test and they put me in touch with the hiring manager.
Good conversation. I had all the credentials listed and more.
Call ended positive and the hiring manager wanted me to speak with others on the team.
Followed up a few days later. Crickets.
Repeat process. Same result.
This was six months ago. Position is still open. I imagine it has been open 10 months.
Poor. Hey, if a big titled person says they want to introduce you to others, that means something. Poor "customer service " for ghosting.
I had a pleasant first interview with a recruiter, followed by nice conversations with a peer and the director of the department I was applying for. A fourth interview was changed at the last minute but I was assured by he recruiter that I was the leading candidate and that a case study was all that was left. By the time I finally was able to present the case study (by now we were over a month into the process), I had already seen many red flags: everyone seemed overworked, exhausted, and under constant pressure; and the three attendees of my case study presentation looked tired at best, and disinterested at worse. I don't think I did a terrible job, at least not based on the few questions they asked (though it should be noted that one of them seemed to be doing other things most of the time), and in the end I never found out how I did, because after 5 rounds of interviews and more than a month I went from "the number 1 candidate" to being ghosted like some tinder date. It seems that OwnBackup is too tired and overworked or just can't be bothered to have the decency to explain a candidate who went 5 rounds that he is not getting the job.
Had interview with hiring manager. Asked me how my experience applies to the job. When they should probably already know how, since they chose to interview me. Also didn't understand very well what I did. Oh well.
